WHAT IS A VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION?The vertebral subluxation is the term applied to a vertebra which has lost its normal position and/or motion in relation to neighboring vertebrae. Vertebrae which do not function properly within the spinal framework generate mechanical stress. This accelerates the wear and tear on the surrounding spinal muscles, ligaments, discs, joint and other spinal tissues. Pain, tenderness to touch, inflammation, decreased spinal mobility, and muscle spasm and tension will eventually follow.
|
HOW IS IT CORRECTED?The first step is to identify the problem. A physical examination, including palpation, postural evaluation and other physical tests may be used to help to identify the area of concern. Based upon history and onset of a complaint, x-rays may be used to assess the postural relationships of the spine or identify ligament disruption in the event of onset of symptoms due to trauma. Once the vertebral subluxation is identified, a treatment plan can be developed with periodic outcome measures to help document progress.
